A newbie's voyage into Streamline.net and Web Development
Steamline.net was the first web hosting company I used when I first began web development. The unlimited hosting package drew me in, as well as the cheap price. I paid for the full year, because of the discounts & so I did not need to worry about paying every month.
My account was setup almost instantly, and I began my voyage in to web development. Unfortunately, there was very little help in the FAQ for first time users.
Once I finally worked out how to use FTP and HTML, I tried to upload my first ever webpage, but my site was down. I contacted Streamline's customer support, and got a reply one day later telling me my site was up.
I then decided to install phpBB, but later found out the server didn't have MySQL! After contacting Streamline again, I got a response a few days later with my SQL login details.
Once I installed phpBB, I noticed MySQL would often throw up "cannot connect" errors. I thought this was normal at the start, and continued on, ignoring the errors. Eventually, I found out I could not edit the database, so I had to contact customer support - again. Once again, they took over a day to respond to my support request. Once they got back to me, they gave me a login to this custom control panel that allowed me to edit my database and more. While it was basic, at least it worked!
After the site continued going up and down, I eventually gave up and cut my losses, going elsewhere.
I would stay away from Streamline. You're better off elsewhere. Streamline's support is awful, the site is slow and the servers are unreliable.
There are always other companies - consider using them rather than Streamline!
